Baby Obadiah was born at 27 weeks gestation due to preeclampsia and spent 123 days in the NICU. At birth, Obadiah was diagnosed with a bilateral cleft lip and a cleft palate that runs from his gum line through his soft palate.

After being discharged from the NICU, he came to Overland Park Regional Medical Center to work with Patrick Christopher, MD, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and co-director of our Cleft and Craniofacial Program.

At 7 months of age, Obadiah had surgery to repair his lip. Now, he and his family are adjusting to his new lip and working on taking full bottles while they wait for his palate repair in a few months.

“We could not be more thrilled! It looks like that is how his lip has been all along. Dr. Christopher and the team were so kind and reassuring. They checked in several times during surgery to let us know how he was. The team is patient and take the time to answer all of our questions.”
