Living donor program

Learn more about becoming an organ donor and how our kidney living donor program connects patients in the Kansas City metro with life-saving transplant care.

Being a living kidney donor is an incredible selfless act of service. More than 100,000 people in the U.S. are currently waiting for their kidney match. In 2021, more than 6,500 living kidney donor transplants were performed, which is an increase of 14.2 percent over 2020. Many kidney transplant candidates wait years for an organ from a deceased donor when a living organ donor can shorten that wait time tremendously. Family, friends, coworkers and even strangers, can shorten the wait and make a transplant possible for so many.
