Independence, Mo. — Today HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider, announced that Lee’s Summit Medical Center CEO John McDonald has been named CEO of Centerpoint Medical Center, bringing nearly 20 years of healthcare leadership experience.
During his five-year tenure as CEO of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, McDonald oversaw numerous growth and capital investment initiatives to meet the community's needs better. These include launching the hospital’s orthopedic spine and neurosurgery service lines; investing in two daVinci robotic surgical systems, which tripled the hospital’s surgical volume; adding a hybrid operating room, which more than doubled the vascular surgical service line’s volume; and facilitating a new joint-venture surgery center, which is currently under development. Lee’s Summit Medical Center also improved its quality rankings and achieved top-quartile rankings in employee and physician engagement among all HCA Healthcare facilities under McDonald’s leadership.
“John is an outstanding and talented leader prepared to continue serving the Eastern Jackson County community in his new role,” said HCA Midwest Health President Keith Zimmerman. “With tremendous executive experience, an unwavering commitment to community service, and a deep understanding of the patient's perspective, he is poised to make significant contributions and continue elevating the high level of award-winning healthcare for the communities Centerpoint Medical Center serves.”

Before joining HCA Midwest Health, McDonald served three years as COO of Corpus Christi Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, part of HCA’s Gulf Coast Division. He also held several leadership roles for Amarillo and Houston, Texas hospitals. A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, McDonald was named a 2020 NextGen Leader by the Kansas City Business Journal.
