Centerpoint Medical Center announces milestone for ER of Independence opening Fall 2025
The state-of-the-art emergency care facility in Independence will offer emergency care for adults and children.
Independence, MO – Centerpoint Medical Center hosted a beam signing ceremony for its new ER of Independence, part of the Eastern Jackson County healthcare leader’s continued investment in accessible care for community residents as demands continue to grow. The ER of Independence, a dedicated emergency care facility at 1545 East 23rd Street South, will provide a full range of medical services for children and adults experiencing emergent issues when it opens next fall.
The 18,500 square foot, state-of-the-art ER will be staffed with board-certified emergency medicine physicians and nurses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, just like an emergency room housed within a hospital's walls. Physicians and colleagues will treat various general and specific conditions, including infections, chest pain and broken bones, and offer several diagnostic services on-site. The new building will contain three medical / surgical beds and 12 emergency department bays.
“This is an exciting day as we celebrate a significant milestone in the development of the ER of Independence, a dedicated emergency care center,” said Centerpoint Medical Center CEO John McDonald. “This ‘beam signing ceremony’ is a tradition in which a project’s stakeholders sign a significant structural beam before it is hoisted into place and becomes part of the building. It’s a way for people involved in the project and a part of our community to leave their mark as it’s being constructed.
“It seems an appropriate milestone to celebrate. As the city of Independence and Eastern Jackson County continue to grow, the ER of Independence is our way of leaving a positive mark on this community; it’s Centerpoint Medical Center’s response to the increasing demand for healthcare services and our commitment to ensuring that care is accessible when and where it is needed the most. We know how critical timely care is when an emergency happens, and this ER will offer high-quality, compassionate care in a convenient location, closer to home for many of our friends and neighbors.”
The ER of Independence will enable Centerpoint Medical Center to offer patient-centered care to more area residents and expand convenient access to the hospital’s advanced treatments, innovative technologies, and experienced care teams. Designed to meet the community’s growing healthcare needs, the ER of Independence will feature:
- 12 private emergency care treatment bays
- Three medical / surgical beds
- Digital diagnostic equipment, including CT, ultrasound and portable X-ray machines
- On-site laboratory
- Telemedicine technology with a specific focus on stroke care and behavioral health
Patients visiting the ER of Independence can expect the same level of care as a hospital-based emergency department, and the same evidence-based medicine found in all of Centerpoint Medical Center’s facilities to create a connected and collaborative healthcare experience for patients and their families. As part of the HCA Midwest Health- the region’s largest healthcare network, the ER of Independence offers patients requiring inpatient treatment access to Centerpoint Medical Center, physician practices, and specialty care throughout Eastern Jackson County.
