Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation aims to help you recover from a cardiovascular event — such as a heart attack or heart failure — or other debilitating heart condition. This recovery process usually involves physical therapy, exercise and education to rebuild and maintain your heart strength.

Cardiovascular rehabilitation programs in Kansas City

If you're recovering from a heart attack, or experiencing congestive heart failure, your cardiologist may suggest cardiac rehabilitation.

At HCA Midwest Health, our cardiovascular team members have extensive experience, and work with you to design a rehabilitation program that meets your needs and goals. This usually includes instruction on physical activity, nutrition, stress management and other health-related areas, and is a critical part of treatment for your specific heart problem.

We offer a variety of both inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation services across our facilities throughout the Kansas City area.

This certification shows HCA Midwest's programs are aligned with current guidelines as approved by the AACVPR for early outpatient care of patients with cardiac or pulmonary issues.

Specialized care for cardiac patients

Our programs are designed to meet the needs of everyone who seeks our care. Participants typically spend six-to-12 weeks in cardiac rehabilitation, attending up to three sessions per week. The length of your program may depend upon your goals, the progress of your recovery or your physician’s recommendation.

The cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program is composed of registered nurses and an exercise physiologist who work directly with physicians, dietitians, pharmacists and respiratory therapists. Together, they provide outpatient lifestyle modification and exercise for cardiac and pulmonary patients.

During sessions, the program team will monitor you with an electrocardiograph (ECG) telemetry unit to let them know how you and your heart react and adapt to activity. You’ll also learn how to take your pulse, determine your exercise intensity and exercise at a level that allows you to receive maximum benefits.

Benefits of cardiac rehabilitation
