Breast health and women's imaging
We offer two convenient locations in south Kansas City where women can receive breast cancer screening: Research Medical Center Brookside Campus and Research Medical Center's main campus. Early detection is a critical tool in the fight against breast cancer, which is why we recommend women 40 years old and older receive annual screening mammograms.
In addition to identifying cancer, mammograms help diagnose abnormal growths, cysts, lumps and mastitis. No matter the breast condition, we are here to help. Our imaging services go beyond digital (3D) mammography and include breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and breast ultrasound. Having access to multiple imaging services is important for women with dense breast tissue, which can make results harder to visualize on a mammogram.
Mammography screening hours
Research Medical Center (main campus) offers screenings Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Research Medical Center Brookside Campus offers screenings Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday from 8:00am to noon. Walk-in appointments are available Monday through Friday.
Breast cancer care
We are part of the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at HCA Midwest Health, which is renowned for providing top-quality breast care. If cancer is identified on a mammogram or other imaging exam, we perform advanced diagnostic tests and comprehensive treatments, including surgical oncology and radiation therapy.
In addition to our top-quality cancer treatment, we help patients as they enter remission and survivorship. Our specialists are here to provide regular checkups, genetic counseling, fertility preservation and diet and exercise guidance.
Gynecology
Gynecologic services are available to aid your long-term health. In addition to providing routine screenings, such as Pap smears, we perform a variety of gynecologic surgeries, including fibroid removal and hysterectomy.
One of the most common problems that affects the female reproductive system is pelvic floor dysfunction. This occurs when the muscles supporting the organs in the pelvis become weakened. Our gynecologists treat pelvic floor conditions through diagnostic testing, physical therapy and gynecologic surgery.
We treat the following pelvic floor disorders:
- Fallen bladder
- Pelvic floor hernia
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Uterine prolapse
- Vaginal prolapse
Research Medical Center offers vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery), an advanced minimally invasive gynecologic technique for hysterectomy procedures, as well as salpingectomy, oophorectomy, and cystectomy procedures. This technique provides patients with a shorter hospital stay, less postoperative pain, no visible scars and faster recovery time.
