Paul Hancock, MD, MBA
Chief Executive Officer
Paul Hancock has served as Chief Executive Officer for Research Medical Center since April 2023. He has been with HCA for almost 10 years in various roles and markets, most recently serving for seven years as the Chief Medical Officer for Methodist Healthcare in HCA’s San Antonio Division. Prior to joining Methodist Healthcare, Paul served as CMO of Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. He transitioned to full-time executive leadership when he accepted the role as CEO of the Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo, Texas, and simultaneously held an executive role as vice president of Baptist St. Anthony’s Health System in Amarillo. He attended medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and earned his MBA from The University of Texas at Dallas.
Julian Yang, MD, MBA
Chief Medical Officer
Julian Yang has served as Chief Medical Officer at Research Medical Center since August 2023. Before his career with HCA, Julian served for four years as the Chief Medical Officer at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, in Tennessee. Prior to that, he was a practicing faculty physician in neurocritical care at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina and also served as the service line medical director for Neurosciences. He earned his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from the University of Southern California. He also earned his MBA from Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
Jessica Marin, MBA
Chief Operating Officer
Jessica Marin, who was born and raised here in Kansas City, has served as Chief Operating Officer at Research Medical Center since October 2022. She brings diverse operational experience that she’s gained over the last several years at various HCA Healthcare facilities, including within HCA Midwest Health. She most recently served as COO of Summerville Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare’s Trident Health System, in Summerville, South Carolina. Prior to that role, Jessica served as Vice President of Operations for St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, where she oversaw various key service lines. Before joining St. David’s, Jessica spent six years at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, serving first as Director of Business Development and then as Administrative Director of Operations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Kansas and an MBA with a concentration in healthcare administration from Avila University.
Julie Filbeck, RN, MSN
Chief Nursing Officer
Julie Filbeck has served as Chief Nursing Officer for Research Medical Center since April 2021. Julie has spent the past eight years in various leadership roles within HCA Midwest Health, including serving as the Division Vice President of Nursing Operations, Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Centerpoint Medical Center and Director of Critical Care for Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Prior to joining HCA Midwest Health, Julie served as a bedside nurse and advanced into nursing leader roles at other Kansas City area health systems. Julie earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Graceland University in Independence, Missouri, and a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis in healthcare administration from MidAmerican Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas.
Yvonne Brewington
Vice President, Human Resources
Yvonne Brewington has served as the Vice President for Human Resources for Research Medical Center since March 2021. She has been with HCA Midwest Health for more than 25 years, first starting at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas, as an administrative assistant. She has served in various roles since then, including Human Resources Coordinator and Director of Human Relations for Belton Regional Medical Center. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Missouri Western University and master’s degree in human resources management from Webster University.
Shannon Griggs-Failes
Chief Operations Officer, Research Psychiatric Center
Shannon Griggs-Failes has served as Chief Operations Officer of Research Psychiatric Center, a 100-bed psychiatric facility that operates alongside Research Medical Centers’ Emergency Room, since 2017. Over the past 12 years, Shannon has served in various leadership roles within HCA Midwest Health. Prior to her current roll as at RPC, she was the Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Surgical Services at Research Medical Center and the Business Development Director for Lee’s Summit Medical Center. Prior to joining HCA Midwest Health, Shannon spent 18 years working in pharmaceutical sales. She earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing and logistics from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s degree in hospital services administration from the University of Kansas.
