Emergency care

Emergency care is the treatment of unexpected, severe medical injuries or infections. It is typically delivered in an emergency room or an ambulance. Our emergency medicine physicians stabilize your condition as quickly as possible to prepare you for the next step of care or discharge.

Advanced heart attack care

Chest pain is the most noticeable symptom of a heart attack. A STEMI, or ST-elevation myocardial infarction, is a severe form of a heart attack in which one of the heart's major arteries supplying oxygen and nutrient-rich blood to the heart is blocked. During a STEMI attack, the heart suffers extensive damage and requires immediate attention.

Signs and symptoms of a STEMI may include:

  • Anxiety
  • Chest pain or discomfort
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Excessive sweating
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

Lafayette Regional Health Center has been designated a Time Critical Diagnosis (TCD) Level III STEMI Center by Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services. This recognition acknowledges our ability to provide patients with quicker response times and quality, coordinated care. As a result, STEMI patients have an increased chance of stability and recovery.
