Urgent care

Urgent care provides treatment for minor conditions and illnesses that need immediate attention, but are not cause for an emergency room visit. Urgent care facilities are open beyond the hours of a typical medical practice, providing care during the day, weeknights and on weekends.

Quick and convenient access to the care you need

A virtual urgent care appointment is a good option when you are not able to make a timely appointment with your primary care physician or if your condition is not serious enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room (ER). CareNow® typically treat patients with minor illnesses, such as the flu, strep throat or 24-hour bugs.

Seeking care at an urgent care clinic doesn't mean you have to sacrifice quality or medical expertise for convenience. CareNow® physicians and urgent care specialists are highly experienced and can treat various health problems from accidental injuries to bad colds or the flu.

Why choose a virtual urgent care visit?

  • Convenience of seeing a provider from your home
  • Extended hours, seven days a week
  • No appointment necessary
  • Most major insurance plans accepted*
  • Ability to help facilitate follow-up care with an HCA Midwest Health specialist, if needed
  • Able to fill prescriptions

CareNow® provides easy and quick access to quality healthcare for the times when your primary care physician’s office is busy or closed. Our providers also have the ability to provide your primary care provider information regarding your visit and any needed follow-ups.

If you do not have a primary care provider, CareNow® can assist in finding you a medical home and connect you with primary care providers in the Lafayette County community.

*Your urgent care co-pay may not be the same as your primary care co-pay. Please check with your insurance provider. Cash options are also available.

If you are experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

Preparing for your virtual visit

It's important you download Google Chrome internet browser if you plan to use a desktop computer, but all mobile browsers will work.

We also highly recommend you prepare your mobile device or computer and ensure the following items are prepared before you begin:

  • Be sure you have adequate battery life.
  • Close any unnecessary programs on your device to ensure reliable connectivity.
  • Double check your internet and/or mobile service connection is strong
  • Enable your microphone and video capabilities.

Other things to consider before your visit:

Set up for quality sound

  • Find a quiet space where you are unlikely to be interrupted during your visit.
  • We recommend using earbuds with a microphone, or a headset to make it easier for you and your provider to communicate clearly.

See and be seen

  • Be sure you have good lighting - use overhead lights and block lights from windows, which can cause glare.
  • If you choose to use a mobile device, position your camera correctly by placing it at eye level so your head and shoulders are fully visible to your provider.

Dress appropriately

For example, if your concern is with your arm, wear short sleeves for easy access.

Decide if you will need assistance

In the example of a sore throat where you may need to show hard-to-reach areas, it's encouraged to have someone assist you by holding a flashlight or directing the camera in order for your provider to do a thorough evaluation.
