WHY: February is National Heart Month and a time to highlight women and heart disease. The statistics are sobering: Almost one in three women is estimated to die of heart disease or stroke this year; one woman dies of heart disease every minute; and women of all ages are at risk, with nearly 9,000 women under 45 years of age suffering a heart attack each year. More women die of heart disease each year than all types of cancer, plus other diseases combined — more than 11 times that of breast cancer.
Belton Regional Medical Center — part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare and heart care provider — will host the 11th Annual Go Red/Ladies’ Night Out. The event’s interactive program will focus on women’s heart health and feature some of the area’s leading physicians and heart experts: Elizabeth Dang, M.D., Cardiologist; Van Jones, D.O., Cardiologist; Carrie Totta, M.D., Cardiologist; and Stefanie Shustek, M.D., Emergency Medicine Physician. Belton Regional Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Heather Palmer, MSN, RN, will co-host the Heart-to-Heart Conversation program.
Known for its community-based patient care for more than 30 years, Belton Regional Medical Center is an advocate for women’s heart health and hosts Go Red/Ladies’ Night Out as an educational opportunity for women to learn about heart attack risks and prevention and how to lead a heart-healthy lifestyle. The event is free and open to adult women within the Belton, Raymore, Peculiar and Grandview communities. Venue is provided by Belton Parks & Recreation.
“Belton Regional Medical Center is committed to helping the women in our communities join in the fight against heart disease by taking those first steps toward living a heart-healthy lifestyle,” says Todd Krass, Chief Executive Officer, Belton Regional Medical Center. “We are proud to offer this event, headlined by Dr. Dang, Dr. Jones, Dr. Totta, and Dr. Shustek. It’s part of the service we provide the community to promote its health and well-being.”
