Menorah Medical Center- part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City's leading healthcare provider- today announced construction will begin this summer on an unprecedented $65 million Neuroscience and Orthopedic Center on its Overland Park Campus. The leading-edge, three-floor, tower will feature 32 fully private inpatient rooms, will add approximately thirty new jobs to the community, and infuse millions of dollars into the local economy in terms of employment and taxes paid by Menorah Medical Center. The Neuroscience and Orthopedic Center will open in late 2020.
"Not only does this new tower represent an unprecedented investment in the community, the facility will allow Menorah Medical Center to further advance our high-quality neuroscience and orthopedic care we provide to patients, the community and surrounding areas," says Menorah Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Charles Laird. "Neuroscience care and orthopedic surgery are highly unique, and hospital services for these patients should reflect that. This investment, which will do just that, is something our growing neurosciences and orthopedic medical staff have asked for, and is well deserved by our community, our patients, and our employees- world-class, highly specialized, innovative services right in our backyard."
Menorah Medical Center is a Primary Stroke Center, as designated by The Joint Commission, which demonstrates its commitment to an advanced, higher standard of service and quality of care provided to patients as well as clinically-specific requirements and expectations. Additionally, Menorah Medical Center is recognized by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Certified Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Center, honoring its commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to orthopedic patients.
The project will be 92,000 square feet of new construction that will include private medical and surgical acute care beds, six new dedicated neurosurgical and orthopedic operating rooms and will have the capability to expand with three additional floors.
"This expansion of Menorah Medical Center will add to the more than $1.4 billion that HCA Midwest Health has invested in enhancing technology and programs for physicians, while expanding services for patients since April 2003," says HCA Midwest Health President M.L. Lagarde III. "HCA Midwest Health is deeply committed to Johnson County and the Kansas City area. The announcement of this expansion is an opportunity to thank our highly qualified and expert neuroscience and orthopedic physicians and healthcare professionals for their dedication to quality patient care, which will be further enhanced with world-class neuroscience and orthopedic services."
"The physicians at Menorah Medical Center are thrilled with the planned expansion of our neuroscience and orthopedic program," says Menorah Medical Center Medical Chief Medical Officer, Steven Kaster, MD. "This project will enable us to not only respond to the increased demand for neuroscience and orthopedic healthcare services in our communities, but also provide more efficient and high-quality care to our patients and their families."
"As a neurosurgeon who has grown up in the Kansas City area, I feel blessed to not only continue to live here and serve our community, but to be a part of bringing a world-class and much needed, state-of-the-art Neuroscience and Orthopedic Center to our own backyard," says Dr. John Clough, Neurosurgeon at Neurosurgery at South Kansas City Medical Group. "Patients have a choice. This new tower gives them a really good reason to not leave the community, with a brand new facility that can handle any neurosurgical problem from an elective carpal tunnel to a complex brain surgery. It will redefine what neurosurgical care will be in the community."
"We are proud to be the first dedicated neuroscience and orthopedic center in the area," says Menorah Medical Center's, Kelly J. Hendricks, Orthopedist, at Kansas City Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine. "We are grateful to have had a seat at the table, as we dream about what "Best in Class" looks like for our patients and staff. It will give patients the best of all worlds- highly specialized care and dedicated, specially-trained nursing and support staff for their specific diagnosis, all in a private setting that encourages them to connect with and gain support from family and friends as part of their treatment plan. It is an exciting time to be in medicine as we shape the future of healthcare, while making a significant impact in the outcomes of neuroscience and orthopedic patients."
