HCA Midwest Health System announced today that Loren Meyer, MD, has joined the system as Physician Executive of Midwest Physicians Medical Group. Consistent with the “physician led, professionally managed” philosophy of Midwest Physicians, Dr. Meyer joins Vice President Pat Kueny as an administrative leader of the 273-member medical group.

Dr. Meyer comes to HCA Midwest Health System from the Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group in Milwaukee, Wis., where he served as president and chief executive officer since 2006. He has extensive experience in both the clinical and administrative operations of implementing office-based electronic health records (EHR) solutions. At Midwest Physicians, Dr. Meyer will work collaboratively with Kueny to foster a culture of strong physician inclusion in leadership.

Dr. Meyer received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Washington University In St. Louis and his medical degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. VA. He completed his pediatric residency at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., and his certificate in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburg, Pa.

HCA Midwest is the Kansas City area’s largest healthcare network and private sector employer, consisting of 10 hospitals, outpatient centers, clinics, physician practices, surgery centers and more than 8,000 employees. In addition, HCA Midwest and its hospitals provide an array of other innovative services to meet the healthcare needs of the greater Kansas City area. Midwest Physicians currently represents 273 physicians, including 113 primary care providers and 160 specialists with 70 physician practices providing care in 112 locations to serve the community.

Steve Corbeil, president and chief executive officer of HCA Midwest, says Dr. Meyer’s physician leadership will be imperative in helping Midwest Physicians as it continues to grow. “Loren has the vision to help our multi-specialty physicians group grow and serve the community,” says Corbeil. “As a physician, Loren is well-versed with the positive impact that physician-led services have on the overall quality of healthcare. In addition, his personal experience as a physician implementing EHR is crucial for HCA Midwest’s high standards of quality care. ”
