Lee’s Summit Medical Center — part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider — announced its surgery team recently performed its 3,000th robotic-assisted surgery. This significant milestone comes as the community healthcare leader continues to invest in and expand innovative and state-of-the-art high-quality, minimally invasive surgery options to patients.

“This milestone represents a momentous achievement for Lee’s Summit Medical Center and our surgery team,” said Lee’s Summit Medical Center general surgeon Adam Kramer, DO, who celebrated performing his 1,000th robotic surgery at the hospital earlier this month. “We strive to always provide the highest quality of care using the most advanced surgical technology, so our patients receive the best possible outcomes.”

As robot-assisted surgery technologies continue to advance, Lee’s Summit Medical Center is committed to using leading-edge surgical systems, allowing surgeons more precise control of surgical instruments than what’s possible using traditional methods. This leads to increased accuracy and improved outcomes for patients. Additional benefits to minimally invasive surgery include less scarring, faster recovery times, reduced risk of infections, less pain and smaller incisions, among others.

Lee’s Summit Medical Center offers robotic-assisted surgery techniques for a variety of surgeries, including bariatric, colorectal, gynecologic and general surgeries. In February, Lee’s Summit Medical Center added another surgical robot, a $2.5 million investment, equipping the hospital with a total of four surgery robots.

“The Lee’s Summit community is experiencing tremendous growth, which means healthcare needs are also expanding,” said Lee’s Summit Medical Center CEO John McDonald, FACHE. “It’s important that Lee’s Summit Medical Center maintains the high level of healthcare we provide the community by bringing even more services and specialties to our campus so patients can stay close to home when receiving care. The addition of another robotic surgical system reflects our commitment to continually invest in the communities we serve.”

The surgery milestone isn’t the only new growth Lee’s Summit Medical Center brings to the community. Earlier this month, the hospital celebrated the grand opening of HCA Midwest Health’s second CareNow® Urgent Care location in Lee’s Summit and the 12th in Kansas City — CareNow Urgent Care Lee’s Summit South. In April, the hospital will break ground on a new ambulatory surgery center, which will offer the community more specialty care and surgical services. In addition, the hospital is finalizing its intensive care unit expansion, allowing Lee’s Summit Medical Center room to care for even more critically ill patients.
