Overland Park, KAN. — HCA Midwest Health today announced that its seven hospitals have achieved 126 awards, a record number, for clinical excellence this year, according to new research by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor. The facilities recognized include Research Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Lee's Summit Medical Center, Belton Regional Medical Center and Lafayette Regional Health Center.

Among HCA Midwest Health hospital’s 126 distinctions from Healthgrades are Specialty Excellence Awards placing the hospitals in the top 10 percent of the nation for Cardiac Care, Gastrointestinal Care, Joint Replacement, Surgical Care and Vascular Care, among others, and Specialty Five-Star Ratings for treatments of conditions such as Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Respiratory Failure, among others. “Out of more than 4,500 hospitals evaluated for specialty care excellence nationwide, HCA Midwest Health is honored to have two hospitals recognized in the top 50 nationally for surgical care and two for vascular surgery right here in Kansas City, and three hospitals recognized as top 100 in the country for multiple service lines,” said HCA Midwest Health President Keith Zimmerman. “These awards speak to our organization’s commitment to high-quality specialty care and our dedication to strong physician partnerships to achieve results that matter to consumers. We are proud our investments in our caregivers, processes, technology, and training make a difference in healthcare, and we will always make clinical quality a priority.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most, patient outcomes, Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades gives consumers the information they need to find a hospital that excels in providing the care they need. And, by shining a light on strengths and weaknesses, Healthgrades ratings help direct hospitals to opportunities for clinical improvement. The most recent hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

This 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed that the variation in performance among hospitals continues to widen, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020 through 2022, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals, on average, 215,667 lives could potentially have been saved, and 149,521 patients could have avoided potential complications, according to Healthgrades. *

“Healthgrades congratulates HCA Midwest Health and its hospitals for being national leaders and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Your dedication, expertise and tireless efforts have not only set you apart but have also positively impacted the lives of countless patients.”
