At the breast care centers of Sarah Cannon HCA Midwest Health, we provide the highest quality breast care through clinical excellence, comprehensive services and a profound dedication to our patients. We believe in empowering women to understand their options for breast health and wellness. And, we are committed to the full spectrum of breast health from cancer screening and high-risk cancer prevention to advanced diagnostics and multidisciplinary cancer treatment, including the use of innovative technology, clinical research and survivorship care.

Breast Cancer Prevention Program

Through our Breast Cancer Prevention Program, we are able to help women understand and manage their risk for breast cancer. By gaining a more accurate estimate of personal risk, they may increase the chance of early cancer detection through an individualized screening plan. There are many factors to be considered to determine an individual’s risk for breast cancer and our medical team and board-certified genetic counselors are experienced in evaluating personal family and medical histories. During a high-risk screening appointment, the participant is provided a high-risk assessment and evaluation and will learn about possible preventive or risk-reduction strategies. Our team is proud to offer the BE Aware (Breast Education Awareness) Program across our HCA Midwest Health system. At these events, participants can meet with one of our breast health experts and a genetic counselor in a group format to better understand breast health and individualized options for managing their personal risk. At the end of the educational session, if they are interested in setting up additional testing or appointments, our team will help facilitate follow-up.

Patient Navigation

Our comprehensive breast cancer program includes breast care patient navigation provided by oncology-trained nurses. A breast care patient navigator is trained in breast care and helps patients navigate their cancer journey from discovery to recovery. The breast care patient navigator will coordinate care with the entire healthcare team, including:

  • Primary care physicians
  • OB/GYNs
  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Surgeons
  • Plastic surgeons
  • Radiologists
  • Pathologists
  • Genetic counselors
  • Dietitians
  • Physical/lymphedema therapists
  • Support groups

The support of a breast care patient navigator, as part of the healthcare team, provides a better experience and improved outcomes.

Technologies to Treatment

Through our interdisciplinary breast case conferences, we improve communication between the healthcare team and ensure the best evaluation and rapid treatment options to personalize breast cancer treatment for each patient.

We offer the latest technologies including breast MRI, ultrasound-guided biopsy, minimally invasive stereotactic biopsy, MRIguided biopsy, breast surgical procedures, Mammosite®, and Cyberknife® radiosurgery.

Through Sarah Cannon HCA Midwest Health, we offer our patients greater access to the latest national clinical research trials in our local communities. Currently, we have more than 60 open clinical research trials for oncology, and more than a dozen of those are specific to breast cancer research.
