Matt Gamblin
Miami County Battalion Chief Matt entrusted OPRMC with his care, after he experienced an ischemic stroke at the end of his shift.
Miami County Battalion Chief Matt Gamblin woke up at the end of his shift with numbness in his left leg. He phoned his friend, an APRN, who urged him to seek emergency medical care. Matt got in his vehicle and headed to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. When in route, his left arm went completely numb.
“I pulled into the garage at the hospital and used cars to help balance myself to get to the ER. I told them I thought I was having a stroke. Dr. Stamper and the ER staff were absolutely amazing. Dr. Stamper called my wife himself and let her know what was happening and that they would take care of me.”
Matt was admitted to the ED and TPA was administered within 20 minutes. It was determined he experienced an ischemic stroke, or cerebral infarction. Today, Matt is back to work and has zero deficits.
“I chose OPRMC, because in my 25 years of EMS, I always appreciated the care that my patients received and the professionalism that I received from them. It has always been consistent. I knew that if something was seriously wrong, I wanted a Trauma Center and people who knew what they are doing.”
