Stage IIIa breast cancer patient Alicia Steinheider celebrates 10 years in remission, under the care of Dr. Anne Kobbermann.
Then 33-year-old Alicia Steinheider was on a family vacation when she discovered a lump in her breast. At first, she considered waiting until her annual exam to get the lump checked by her provider, but her husband urged her to seek medical expertise as soon as possible.
“I felt great at the time of discovery. In fact, I was doing a tough boot camp and felt pretty fit, so finding a lump was quite alarming and overwhelming. Unbeknownst to me, I carry the BRCA II gene.”
After receiving a mammogram, she met with fellowship — trained breast surgical oncologist Dr. Anne Kobbermann who determined Alicia had stage IIIa breast cancer.
Alicia’s treatment plan included breast reconstruction, chemo, radiation and an oophorectomy/hysterectomy due to the BRCA gene mutation. On April 12, 2022, Alicia celebrated 10 years in remission!
“Dr. Kobbermann and her nurse practitioner, Julie, were my first line of defense. They spent so much time explaining the diagnosis to my husband and me. Julie held my hand for those first several weeks — literally and figuratively. She walked me through all the biopsies and BRCA II diagnosis, and aligned me with the team of doctors that would handle my case.”
