Learn more about our visitor policy

Checking into the hospital

Your doctor or the department performing your test will give you an appointment time and instructions for your arrival at the hospital. If you have an appointment, please arrive a few minutes early to complete paperwork. We will ask you to sign consent and release forms authorizing hospital personnel to provide the services your physician has requested for you. You will have an identification band during your stay. This helps ensure you receive the proper treatments and medications.

Leaving the hospital

Our medical staff will work to help you recover as quickly as possible. When your doctor determines that you are well enough to leave the hospital, you will receive detailed discharge procedures. The time you leave depends upon when your physician writes your discharge orders. Before leaving your room, please check for any articles you may have missed in packing. While every effort will be made to locate misplaced articles, the hospital is not responsible for articles left in your room. Please follow any instructions you have been given concerning your health and medications carefully. If you do not understand these instructions, please ask a nurse prior to leaving. If you require home health or hospice care, we will be happy to assist you in making arrangements.

Hospital visiting hours

Family and friends provide an integral part in the health and well-being of patients. That's why Research Medical Center encourages the presence and participation of visitors in our patients' care. They are valued partners in our care team.

Research Medical Center’s visiting hours are between 7:30am-8:30pm.

  • No visitors are allowed inside the hospital outside of these times.
  • No restrictions on number of visitors or age restriction except for NICU and COVID+ patients.
  • For NICU, a maximum of two visitors at a time, but visitors may change out. Children that would like to visit the NICU must be 14 years of age and older.
  • Throughout the hospital, any child under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • Please note that this may vary by department. Please ask your nurse for specifics on your unit.

COVID+ patients will remain the same per the following:

  • Only one designated visitor during stay for one hour per day.
  • Visitor is not able to change out with any other visitors.
  • Visitor must check in at unit station for donning and doffing of proper PPE.
  • Exceptions are allowed for end-of-life care.

COVID+ Patient Visitors PPE Selection

  • Level 3 mask and Face Shield must be worn the entire duration of your visit. Failure to do so may result in visitor losing privileges to visit again.
  • Visitors will be instructed on the importance of hand hygiene, especially once leaving patient room and prior to removing PPE, and then again after removing PPE.

For general safety, and to reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses, we continue to request that you adhere to the following policies:

  • Please wear a mask at all times, including in patient rooms.
  • Maintain social distancing of at least six feet from others.
  • Wash hands or use hand sanitizer when entering or exiting patient rooms.
  • For the well-being of our patients, there may be times when we need to temporarily limit visitation, and when these situations occur, we will fully inform patients and their loved ones.
  • Aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Examples include: physical assault, verbal harassment, foul language, or threats.

Failure to comply with the above guidelines may result in loss of privileges. We strive to balance visitation with our patients' needs for a quiet, restful and safe environment and will work with you to come up with a visitation plan that best meets you and your loved one’s needs.
