Primary Heart Attack Center Certification awarded to OPRMC from the Joint Commission
Recognized for its commitment to treating cardiac patients throughout the region, the hospital continually focuses on rapid diagnosis and high-quality, safe, innovative care.
Overland Park, Kan. — Overland Park Regional Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association’s Heart-Check mark for Primary Heart Attack Center Certification. The hospital is part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review in May. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards, including standardized and coordinated systems of care across the program and hospital teams regarding identification, assessment, monitoring management, data sharing and performance improvement for multidisciplinary STEMI Heart Attack care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

Overland Park Regional Medical Center utilized a multidisciplinary approach in preparing for its certification review by focusing on heart attack symptom onset and first medical contact (pre-hospital and upon arrival) data. The team also engaged EMS partners, the Emergency Department, Cardiac Cath Labs, and various inpatient teams and physicians to share performance metrics.
Overland Park Regional Medical Center recently earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® - Heart Failure Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to improving outcomes for patients with heart failure. This summer, Becker’s Hospital Review named Overland Park Regional Medical Center on its “Great Hospitals in America 2024” list. Becker’s said that Overland Park Regional Medical Center “offers the only robotic-assisted cardiac catheterization lab in Kansas, and its Kansas City Heart Rhythm Institute is a leader in advanced cardiac electrophysiology.
