Overland Park, Kan. — Menorah Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider, showcased a newly renovated Birthing Center and NICU during a ribbon cutting event recently.

The $4 million remodel increases private beds from seven to 13. Additionally, three triage beds were added to the unit for incoming patients to be cared for and evaluated by a nurse and/or physician. The Birthing Center also includes 12 Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) suites featuring modern décor, in-room refrigerators, and a boutique setting.

Menorah Medical Center OB Navigators will provide private tours and assist with pre-registration, choosing a pediatrician, creating a birth plan in collaboration with patients, and connecting patients to prenatal education and community resources.

“Menorah Medical Center is excited to open our newly renovated Birthing Center and NICU to the community,” said CEO Phill Buttell. “We have always provided the best-in-care for mother and baby, and now we are doing it in one of the region’s most beautiful and serene settings equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated and compassionate team of nurses, physicians, and specialists.”

“Our Birthing Center staff is eager to showcase the updates and renovations to expectant parents around the region,” said Birthing Center Director Annette Hinton. “Our OB Navigators have received positive reviews and feedback about the boutique-like setting and customized birth plans we produce for mother and baby.”

Seven NICU rooms overlook Menorah Medical Center’s picturesque nature garden and walking trail. Parents can stay 24 hours a day, every day, during their newborn’s stay, enabling them to feel more like a parent and less like a visitor and providing the baby with an enhanced neurosensory experience to support their development. Research supports that neonates cared for in a private room require fewer medical procedures and experience less stress, lethargy, and pain. Additionally, the intimate setting helps the newborn gain weight more rapidly and achieve a healthy weight at discharge.
