Geriatric psychiatry in Kansas City

Senior mental health care is provided by psychiatrists board-certified in senior care and master's-level nursing staff. Our senior care program at Research Psychiatric Center offers mental health services for adults over 60 years old. Some patients between 55 and 60 years old may be admitted on a case-by-case basis.

Our mental health physicians deliver special care to meet seniors' unique emotional needs and assure patient safety and wellbeing while they are hospitalized.

Mental health conditions we treat

We treat seniors who are faced with a variety of mental health challenges, including:

  • Combative and angry behaviors
  • Dementia

  • Loss of appetite

Most commonly, our patients are experiencing depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.

Senior Adult Unit

This program is designed for seniors who have maintained a high functioning level before the onset of psychiatric symptoms. These patients typically are admitted from their homes, nursing homes or assisted living facilities and usually require only a brief hospital stay.
