Outpatient behavioral health programs in Kansas City

Outpatient services help people whose mental health problems aren't severe enough to require inpatient treatment. It's cheaper and more flexible since the patient can work sessions around their work and other commitments.

This approach works best with patients who have problems that don't seriously affect their ways of life, such as anxiety, minor depression or eating disorders.

Adult outpatient services

Research Psychiatric Hospital offers several different types of outpatient services for adults, such as:

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The adult PHP provides daily treatment for patients who don't need 24-hour care. The program can also ease the transition from acute inpatient care to home or family care.

Our program offers a safe, structured treatment environment without disruption to family and daily life. It helps restore you to your highest possible level of functioning. Also, it helps you learn to live a more satisfying and productive life.

Most patients are admitted for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic suicidal thoughts, personality disorders or issues about family and interpersonal conflicts. The average length of stay is five to seven days.

A mental health clinician will assess the patient to determine the appropriate level of care. Once the patient is admitted, a psychiatrist or advanced practice nurse clinician evaluates them to see if they need medication to better manage their illnesses and symptoms.

The primary method of treatment consists of educational group therapy sessions. These small groups allow for in-depth analysis of specific issues while providing the opportunity to find support from other individuals facing similar challenges.

Adolescent outpatient services

The process of growing up can come with many challenges. We offer outpatient therapy for teenagers struggling with psychological or emotional problems.

Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Through an intensive therapeutic environment, we help teens return to their homes, communities and schools as soon as possible. We offer intensive mental health services to kids between 12 and 18 years old and their families.

Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, chronic suicidal thoughts or issues concerning family and interpersonal conflicts are common reasons for patients to be admitted.

Patients are assessed by a mental health professional to determine what type of care they need. A psychiatrist evaluates them to decide whether or not they need medication to manage their illnesses and symptoms.

Our program is open from 8:30am to 3pm, Monday through Friday. Teens can return home during the evenings.

Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The adolescent intensive outpatient program provides an intermediate level of care for teens between 12 and 18 years old. These teens have needs too complex for individual therapy alone but who don't need inpatient care.

This program is led by an experienced team that integrates evidence-based clinical programming to provide teens with new tools to master everyday life challenges.
