The brain is the control center for our body. Because of this, a loved one who has suffered a stroke may experience many changes that can affect their physical and emotional health. The functions that are impacted depends on where the stroke occurred in the brain. Common challenges can include:
- Physical weakness and fatigue
- Vision trouble
- Muscle stiffness, lack of control or partial loss of sensation
- Balance trouble and walking challenges
- Shoulder pain
- Bladder control problems
- Seizures or paralysis
- Trouble with speech, language, reading or writing
- Difficulty eating or swallowing
- Confusion or problems thinking clearly
- Anxiety and fearfulness
All of these challenges can be addressed through a well-rounded recovery program focused on improving and preserving independence and quality of life.
Post Stroke Rehabilitation in Kansas City
The stroke therapy program at HCA Midwest Health is one of the most trusted and complete programs of its kind in the KC region. Our team of specialized medical professionals are committed to helping you achieve the best possible results. We work with survivors, their doctors and families to help them find their way back to normalcy. Our multidisciplinary team of caregivers will partner with you to develop a personalized treatment plan and set therapy goals. We will also work to ensure you and your family have the right education and resources needed to be successful after you leave the hospital.
Comprehensive Inpatient Stroke Rehab
The most rapid recovery usually occurs during the first three to four months after a stroke, but some stroke survivors continue to recover well into the first and second year post-stroke. Research Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center offer you and your loved ones highly-specialized care, advanced technology and many other resources, all close to home. Our programs offer each patient nearly twice as many hours per week of therapy than is normally provided at a skilled nursing facility. This extra time may be essential to maximize recovery.
Outpatient Stroke Rehab
Following an inpatient stay, stroke patients often require outpatient therapy to continue making progress. We realize that post-stroke travel may not be the easiest. That’s why all seven of our hospitals around the Kansas City region offer outpatient recovery services. This way, you and your loved ones will never have to travel far to continue on the road to recovery.
