At HCA Midwest Health, we encourage and support mothers who wish to breastfeed. Breastfeeding can at times be challenging and frustrating, especially for new moms and their partners. But the benefits of health and bonding far outweigh the challenges. With the right information and support, a little patience and a lot of love we believe women can meet their breastfeeding goals. And our team of experienced lactation consultants are here to provide guidance, and support every step of the way.
Breastfeeding support begins in our childbirth classes, where expectant moms can ask questions and get helpful tips and techniques. In our post-partum care rooms, healthy newborns can room-in with mom, making it easier to get started. And our lactation consultants are available to help out. Our commitment continues once mom and baby have left the hospital, with breastfeeding classes, support groups and lactation consultants available.
For our tiniest NICU babies, getting breast milk can make all the difference. That’s why we’ve partnered with a local milk bank, where moms can donate breast milk to be used by NICU babies.
That said, breastfeeding is a personal decision that should be discussed with your physician. For some women, breastfeeding may not be an option for a variety of reasons. Others may need to supplement with formula, especially if the baby is not getting enough breast milk, or breast milk hasn’t come in.
