Why can’t I get my hospital records when I log in to my physician’s patient portal? I know she has access to the records online. Why can’t I?
It’s good to know that your doctor has access to all of your most recent health records, including hospital stays and ER visits. And it can feel frustrating if you don’t have that same access to your own medical data. At HCA Midwest Health, we’re working hard to make sure you do have that access. Our online patient portals let you view your personal health records 24/7 – whether for your primary care, your hospital visits or even certain specialists.
You’re probably familiar with your HCA Midwest Health primary care physician’s online patient portal – called HealthPortal. What you may not be aware of, is that all HCA Midwest Health hospitals have a patient portal as well – called MyHealthOne. Some of our specialty practices also offer portals specific to their patient groups.
Ensuring the Security of Patient Health Data
So why two (or more) portals? Currently, it’s the best way to make sure patient data is secure.
“Making sure patient data is secure and also immediately accessible to patients and their health providers is incredibly complex technically,” said Jared Mabry, Chief Information Officer, HCA MidAmerica Division. “Our first priority is always security. So, for the moment, that means different portals.”
While they are all part of HCA Midwest Health, each portal has distinct features to best meet the needs of each group and its patients. Here’s a run-down of the main features for each portal – and how to get access.
HealthPortal (HCA Midwest Health physicians)
Related to your primary care visits:
- View personal health records and visit summaries
- Review appointment information
- Request prescription refills
- Send and receive messages (primary care practice staff)
- Review lab results
You may need a code from your primary care physician to set up your HealthPortal account. Once that is done, you can access your primary care patient data online at any time by visiting MyMidwestPhysician.com/patient-portal. Contact your physician’s office if you run into any problems creating your HealthPortal account.
MyHealthOne (HCA Midwest Health Hospitals)
Related to your hospital, ER and specialist visits:
- View, print and download person health records including clinical information and discharge instructions
- Review lab results
- Review imaging reports
- Pre-register for a hospital stay
- Make an appointment
- Schedule a class or event
- Find a doctor
- Medication education
- Bill pay (excluding services billed directly by a physician or practice, such as anesthesia or ER physician bills)
To create a MyHealthOne account, click on your hospital name below and complete the instructions. You will need your social security number (SSN). If you don’t have an SSN or need assistance, call (855) 422-6625 Monday - Saturday from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. CST.

Future Vision: One Portal Across HCA Midwest Health
We know that logging into multiple portals for your health records isn’t ideal. That’s why we’re working toward creating a single point of entry for patients to access all their health records.
“There are a variety of security, regulatory and logistical reasons why this isn’t available yet,” said Mabry. “But technology is advancing rapidly and those advances will soon make this possible.”
