Hospitals should help you book any follow up visits they recommend after a visit to the ER. After dealing with an emergency, it’s hard to keep track of everything.

Whether you go for yourself or someone you love, there is no doubt that a visit to the emergency room can be very stressful. And many times, the visit can require follow-up care with a primary care doctor or specialist. Not following the ER doctor’s recommended follow-up care can slow or prevent recovery and result in another trip to the emergency room.

At HCA Midwest Health we realize that keeping track of what to do next can be difficult. Especially with the added stress of not feeling well on top of all of life’s other priorities. That’s why we are trying to make it as easy as possible for you or your loved ones to get any ER follow-up care needed.

All HCA Midwest Health hospitals now offer a free ER follow-up appointment service for select diagnoses. This means that a hospital representative may call you after discharge to assist in scheduling necessary doctors appointments. They can even help you find an appropriate doctor that is convenient for you. Which diagnoses receive follow-up calls may vary by hospital, but generally include conditions in the following areas:

  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • General Surgery
  • Neurology
  • Ob/Gyn
  • Orthopedics

If your diagnosis isn’t on the list – or if you’d rather reach out to a nurse then have someone call you – you can use our Nurse-On-Call helpline. This free service of HCA Midwest Health gives you access to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Nurses can answer health questions, help you schedule appointments or even help you find a new doctor or specialist. Just call 1-800-386-9355.

After an emergency room visit, the proper follow-up care is essential to recovery. HCA Midwest Health wants to make sure it is a smooth process and you have all the information you need to get back on track.
