Imagine that it’s already Thanksgiving morning. You’re relaxing with your favorite blend of joe, or perhaps you prefer herbal tea. You are anticipating the day’s event, but right now belongs to you.

Food is on your mind and lots of it. You will either cook up a storm or head to grandma’s house or maybe a sibling’s with a side dish you are famous for making — celery and herb stuffing, homemade pumpkin pie, Waldorf salad or that cranberry recipe passed down from several generations of moms and grandmothers.

I don’t know about you, but I love Thanksgiving. Besides filling a tall order of mashed potatoes and turkey and a six-pack of pies, it’s a relatively peaceful, uneventful day. Just the family and you, whether the table is set for three or three dozen. We feast, watch a little football, play some games and take time to breathe. Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate what we are thankful for with the people we love.

The Kansas City Nursing News asked area nurses to tell us what they are grateful for in their world. We hope you enjoy reading their responses.
