Today, HCA Midwest Health—Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider— announces seven hospitals serving the Greater Kansas City region have received Top Performer recognition by The Joint Commission. HCA Midwest Health hospitals receiving the prestigious distinction include Belton Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Research Medical Center were named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, America’s leading accreditor of healthcare organizations.

The seven hospitals are being recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and inpatient psychiatric services.

“Excellent health care is what all patients expect and deserve,” says M.L. Lagarde III, President, HCA Midwest Health. “HCA Midwest Health physicians and employees strive to care for every patient using the best evidence-based care. We’re honored to have seven hospitals included on this distinguished list. This distinct recognition indeed proves we are being true to our Mission: “Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life through a culture focused on Patient Centered Excellence.”

The HCA Midwest Health System hospitals are among few hospital systems in the U.S. with seven hospitals earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2013 calendar year. There are only 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction.

“We understand that what matters most to patients and their families is safe, effective care,” says Darryl Nelson, M.D., HCA Midwest Health Chief Medical Officer. “That’s why HCA Midwest Health is committed to accreditation and positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes. This commitment is making an impact and our seven hospitals are proud to be named to the list of The Joint Commission’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures.”

To be a 2013 Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability measure data, including: Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures; achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“Belton Regional Medical Center, Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Research Medical Center and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., President and Chief Executive Officer, The Joint Commission. “Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of the seven HCA Midwest Health facilities for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions.”
