Menorah Medical Center (MMC), part of HCA Midwest Health—Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider—has appointed Nan K. Whalen, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, as Chief Nursing Officer at Menorah Medical Center.  Whalen, who has been Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Research Medical Center—also part of HCA Midwest Health—since March, will assume the role Sept. 9, 2015.

Whalen is an accomplished nurse and leader with an innate passion for excellence and has served in various capacities for more than 25 years.  Most recently, prior to joining the HCA Midwest Health family, Whalen was at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City where she served as Carondelet Health Regional Director, Quality Resources from 2013 - 2015, leading a two-hospital system Quality Program, including department performance improvement initiatives, process measures, patient safety council and quality data oversight. From 2009 - 2013 Whalen served as Administrative Director Inpatient Nursing Services at the hospital, leading the development of an $8 million Surgical Intensive Care Unit and overseeing design and build of a new 20-bed critical care step down unit. Whalen received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, and Master of Science in Nursing/Leadership Management from Webster University in Kansas City, Mo.

“Nan brings extensive leadership experience and enthusiasm for ensuring Menorah Medical Center continues to excel at providing quality care and service to our patients and their families,” says Charles Laird, Chief Executive Officer at Menorah Medical Center. “The Menorah Medical Center staff and our patients depend on excellence in nursing care.  Nan is a visionary leader who will work closely with our physicians and nursing staff to advance Menorah Medical Center’s commitment to the care and improvement of human life.”

“I am honored and humbled to join the dynamic team at Menorah Medical Center and contribute to the patient-centered approach, which helps set Menorah apart with a culture of clinical excellence, high-quality patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration,” Whalen says.  “I am excited to help continue the hospital’s growth and continued commitment to patient satisfaction and positive patient outcomes with a dedicated nursing team at one of Johnson County’s most respected healthcare leaders.”
