Seventh Annual Community Block Party and Health Fair Promotes Fit Families

What: Seventh annual Community Block Party and Health Fair, hosted by The Research Foundation, promoting healthy, fit families. Free health screenings, half- or one-mile “Fun Walk,” and family-oriented activities will be available. 

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013

Where: Research Medical Center, 2316 E. Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, Mo. 64131

Why: Research Medical Center invites its neighbors to attend this event that hosts 90 health-related organizations in addition to free health screenings offered by community organizations including blood glucose, body mass index, dental, foot, HIV and posture health. Research Medical Center will offer free blood pressure checks.

Local celebrity chef Renee Kelly of Harvest will give healthy cooking demonstrations at 10:20 and 11:10 a.m. Event attendees can also participate in the half-mile or one-mile “Fun Walk.” The first 25 walkers will receive an insulated tumbler, one-day free gym pass to the Brookside Health Pavilion and Outpatient Therapy and a free healthy-eating cookbook. First Call Alcohol/Drug Prevention and Recovery will participate in National Take Back Day throughout the Community Block Party and Health Fair, allowing attendees to turn in unused or expired medication for safe disposal. A children’s activity area will be sponsored by the Research College of Nursing and the mascot of the Renegades, Kansas City’s indoor football team, will attend. The first 250 children will receive free bicycle helmets from the Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City and the Kansas City Public Library will distribute free books. The children’s activity area will also feature carnival games, moonwalk, and face painting.
