Midwest Cancer Care at Research Medical Center is delighted to announce that Sharon Lojun, MD, MS has joined the cancer center staff. Research Medical Center is part of HCA Midwest Health System—Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider and private sector employer. The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accredits Research Medical Center as a Comprehensive Community Cancer Program, in recognition of excellent patient care services. Midwest Cancer Care provides specialized patient-focused diagnosis, treatment and support, and Dr. Lojun will assist in delivery of gynecological-oncological care to patients.
Midwest Cancer Care, a network of experienced cancer specialists, accredited cancer hospitals and outreach sites, is also part of Midwest Physicians—a network of experienced, multi-specialty physicians located throughout the greater Kansas City metropolitan area that is part of HCA Midwest Health System.
Dr. Lojun brings a high level of obstetrics and gynecology knowledge to her position, in addition to a robust background in public health, biomedical informatics and university-level teaching. Her professional appointments that continue to the present include chief medical information officer with MD Idea Lab (Boston) and Physician Informaticist Consultant. She is board certified in OB/GYN and in Gynecologic Oncology, and board eligible in biomedical informatics.
Dr. Lojun has frequently lectured, internationally, as a visiting professor in the gynecological oncology training program at the Cancer Research Center, National Health Research Institute of Taiwan, Republic of China. She is also a reviewer for the Journal of the Gynecological Cancer Society and the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association.

Dr. Lojun earned her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College, NYC, with a General Surgery residency at The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, and an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Harvard/Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. She also graduated from the Four Year Honors Program of George H. Cook College of Rutgers University. In addition, Dr. Lojun completed the Sharon E. Smith Gynecologic Oncology Fellowship, University of Louisville School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and a National Library of Medicine Fellowship in Biomedical Informatics, in the Boston Area Informatics Research Training Program.
Dr. Lojun’s post-doctoral degrees include the masters of public health program and a certificate in the Public Health Informatics Program, from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She also earned a master of biomedical informatics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Lojun is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was an assistant professor in the department of obstetrics and gynecology, at State University of New York. She also completed a Biomedical Informatics Fellowship sponsored by HST-MIT National Library of Medicine.
