Lees Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health SystemKansas Citys largest healthcare networkannounces that Hannah Earhart, OTR/L, CLT, has earned certification as a lymphedema therapist. Lymphedemaa chronic condition that develops most commonly following radiation treatment for cancer, but can occur following surgery or a traumatic injuryis when an abnormal amount of fluid collects in tissue and results in swelling, or edema. Earhart will lead the hospitals comprehensive lymphedema management, helping patients to live well with the condition.
Earhart graduated with a masters degree in occupational therapy from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., and has worked at Lees Summit Medical Center as a full-time occupational therapist. She also provides coverage in the outpatient clinic and is Saebo-certified in adult neuro rehab, which allows her to work with the SaeboReach and SaeboFlex orthoses to help stroke survivors with limited or weakened wrist, hand, finger and elbow movement attain more functionality.
Hannahs commitment to educating patients and their families in lymphedema management is part of Lees Summit Medical Center commitment to improve lives, says Jackie DeSouza, chief operating officer of Lees Summit Medical Center.
Earhart says that lymphedema can be painful, and can lead to difficulties with daily activities. As a certified lymphedema therapist, I complete evaluations and establish a treatment plan based on the individual patient. Its important that any plan of symptom control and self-management meets a patients needs and goals.
Lees Summit Medical Center is now accepting referrals for patients seeking lymphedema management on an outpatient basis. Call (816) 282-5985 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
