Lee’s Summit Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider—announced today it has been honored with an outstanding “A” grade in the Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which rates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog.
“Our physicians and employees strive to provide the best care and service for every patient and their family,” says Lee’s Summit Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Matt Sogard, FACHE. “We are very proud of this score because it means an independent organization recognizes our high-quality care, too. Patients and their families choose us because our nurses and doctors are at the top of their professions. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score is just one measure of performance in which we’ve excelled, and to earn the highest quality grades among all hospitals is truly an honor.”
"Our physicians and employees strive to provide the best care and service for every patient and their family."
“Protecting patients from harm is the most important charge for any hospital,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We recognize and appreciate ‘A’ hospitals’ vigilance and continued dedication to keeping their patients safe.”
In 2016, Lee’s Summit Medical Center ranked the highest among other Kansas City, Missouri, hospitals for patient satisfaction and quality and is one of only two hospitals in the Kansas City Metro to be rated four stars in both quality and service (source: Medicare.gov).
Other HCA Midwest hospitals recognized with “A” grades include Centerpoint Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Research Medical Center.
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
