Belton Regional Medical Center, part of HC Midwest Health System-Kansas City’s largest healthcare network-has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with program focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology for the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
Upon making the announcement to the hospital staff, Todd Krass, CEO stated, "ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging. ACR accreditation demonstrates our hospital, physicians and staffs continued commitment to quality care and patient safety at Belton Regional Medical Center. When our patients see this gold seal of accreditation, they will know that our hospital has undergone a rigorous review process and meets nationally accepted standards of care. They will also know that our personnel are well qualified to perform our patient’s procedures and interpret our patient’s medical images. Our equipment is assessed by a medical imaging expert who verifies that it functions properly, takes optimal images, and utilizes appropriate radiation dose levels."
