Midwest Cancer Care at Research Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System—Kansas City’s largest healthcare network and private-sector employer—announces Verda J. Hicks, MD, is joining a cancer care leader in Kansas City. Midwest Cancer Care offers a continuum of specialized, patient-focused diagnosis and treatment and support. Midwest Cancer Care is also part of Midwest Physicians, also part of HCA Midwest. Dr. Hicks joins John C. Weed, MD, in delivering gyn-onc care to patients at Midwest Cancer Care at Research.
Dr. Hicks specializes in gynecologic oncology treatment options and has strong cancer research experience, actively leading clinical trials to help ensure patients have access to the latest in cancer treatments.
Dr. Hicks is a long-tenured and respected specialist in gynecologic oncology. She is dual-certified in both obstetrics/gynecology and gynecologic oncology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hicks is consistently honored by her peers as one of Kansas City’s Super Doctors and as a Top Doc. She also received a Colposcopy Recognition Award from the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology of which she is a member. Dr. Hicks is also a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Kansas City Gynecological Society and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. In addition to her patient practice, Dr. Hicks has taught extensively in her field, serving as a clinical assistant professor in the department of OB/GYN at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and as an assistant professor in the school’s division of gyn-oncology. She also served as an associate professor in gyn-oncology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Prior to receiving her medical degree from University of Illinois-Chicago, Dr. Hicks received a bachelor’s of nursing from University of Iowa. She completed her OB/GYN residency at The Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Hicks completed a gynecologic oncology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and a fellowship in medical education research with the Central Group on Educational Affairs. She received a post-graduate executive graduate certificate from the Hopkins Business in Medicine.
