They are more than a summertime nuisance and becoming a big concern for people spending time outdoors. Illnesses from ticks, mosquitoes and flea bites have tripled in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2004 to 2016, 640,000 cases were reported. This season, cases are already being reported. Dr. A. Gabriel Schifman, Medical Director, Pediatric ER, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, says there's only a few tick-borne illnesses to worry about in the Kansas City metro area.
