Organ donors made more than 28,000 transplants possible nationally during 2012. Research Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider—is home to the Research Medical Center Transplant Institute, which serves the region with a nationally recognized kidney transplant program a simultaneous kidney/pancreas program. The Transplant Institute’s dedicated transplant team performs living donor transplants and participates in multi-center drug studies and the Midwest Transplant Network. The April 1 Donate Life Candlelight Vigil and Memorial Service, as part of National Donate Life Month, will recognize loved ones who supported organ, tissue and eye donation.
Jackie DeSouza, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer of Research Medical Center, notes the important role organ donors play in saving lives. “Organ donors truly give the Gift of Life, so that others may live. Research Medical Center and the Transplant Institute are proud to work with the Midwest Transplant Institute to help this circle of life grow. The candlelight vigil and service at Research is important not only for loved ones, but to help build awareness of the importance of organ donation.”
