Suzy Williams-Umstead spent the holidays in the ER following two strokes with an inability to move her fingers. She followed doctor’s orders but all tests were inconclusive. When her neurologist, Robert Reddig, MD referred her to a cardiologist, Suzy initially resisted but decided instead to meet Carl Akin, MD and ask some questions. At his insistence she underwent a transesophogeal echocardiogram where the culprit was quickly discovered. A cardiac myxoma would require open heart surgery which Prem Samuel, MD at Centerpoint Medical Center performed on March 10th. Now Suzy’s graduating from cardiac rehab and headed back to work just three months later.
