For some, it has been only a year; for other children, it’s been 25 years since their NICU experience. The annual reunion gives former patients, their parents and siblings an opportunity to reconnect with many of the caregivers who became their extended families in the NICU. Several sets of multiples are expected to attend.
“This is truly a celebration of life,” says Kevin J. Hicks, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, Overland Park Regional Medical Center. “Families plan their annual vacation around attending our NICU reunion. To witness the reunions among our NICU grads and the medical team is an extraordinary moment in our cycle of healthcare. Families travel miles just to say ‘thank you’ and it’s an honor to be a part of their lives.”
