The annual screening mammogram is a vital tool for early detection of breast cancer. And now for women across the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area, scheduling that important routine health appointment is now as easy as a few clicks online. HCA Midwest Health System, Kansas City’s largest healthcare network and home of the Midwest Breast Care network, announces the availability of online screening mammogram appointment scheduling and pre-registration at eight area facilities, including Centerpoint Medical Center, Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lee’s Summit Medical Center, Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Research Medical Center Brookside, Research Belton Hospital and Research Medical Center. In addition to online scheduling, women with scheduled screening mammograms can pre-register online to streamline their visit.

The convenient online registration is part of each HCA Midwest hospital’s ongoing “No Excuses, Get Screened” cancer awareness program. More than 38,000 women have received mammograms in the past 12 months at an HCA Midwest hospital, which means nearly 38,000 lives have potentially been saved through early detection. According to the American Cancer Society, screening exams for early breast cancer detection—before the disease starts to cause symptoms—is one of the best ways to fight the disease.

“The implementation of online scheduling and pre-registration is another way our hospitals, physicians and nurses help women include the annual screening mammogram in their busy schedules,” says Anne M. Kobberman, MD, breast surgical oncologist at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. “We all visualize a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays, and streamlining the process of having a mammogram is a small step in the ongoing effort to reduce breast cancer diagnoses and fight the disease.”

The Midwest Breast Care network also offers advanced technology, including digital mammography and MammoPad—a soft foam cushion for use during screening for maximum comfort, comprehensive follow-up services and breast cancer treatment.

The online pre-registration approach helps expedite and simplify the registration process once a patient arrives for their mammogram. Also, online scheduling and pre-registration allow patients the ability to be more in control of their own healthcare experience and greater flexibility for pre-registration options.
