Doctor Jeffrey Salin, DO

WHO:  Menorah Medical Center, in partnership with Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic and Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons.

WHAT:  Board-certified orthopaedic surgeons will help improve quality-of-life for local residents with seven pro-bono hip and knee surgeries, as part of Operation Walk USA.

WHEN: Pre-op class on Monday, Nov. 25 at Menorah Medical Center where patients will receive education prior to their surgeries.  Media is invited to interview patients and the surgeons.  The surgeries will take place at Menorah Medical Center on Dec. 7, 2013 where media is encouraged to attend for continuous interviews and coverage of the actual surgeries.

WHERE: Menorah Medical Center, 5721 West 119th St., (119th St. & Nall), Entry A, Overland Park, Kan., 66209

WHY: Menorah Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health System—Kansas City’s largest healthcare provider, is collaborating with Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic and Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons to provide life-changing surgeries to six area residents. The surgeries are part of Operation Walk USA, an independent medical charitable organization that provides all aspects of knee and hip replacement treatment, surgery, hospitalization and pre- and post-operative care at no cost to patients.  Currently in its third year, Operation Walk USA provides this care to patients who may not qualify for government assistance, have insurance or afford surgery on their own.

Participating surgeons include:  Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic, Gerald McNamara, MD, Jeffrey Salin, DO, Robert Bruce, MD and Thomas Samuelson, MD; Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons, Scott Abraham, MD and Scott Luallin, MD. Menorah Medical Center, Kansas City Bone & Joint Clinic and Carondelet Surgeons are the only Kansas City-area medical professionals participating in the program this year.

Operation Walk USA is a volunteer effort on behalf of the volunteer orthopaedic surgeons and 70 participating hospitals in 32 states, including Menorah Medical Center. This year, the program has been expanded from one day to the entire first week of December, beginning on Monday, December 2, to allow more hospitals, surgeons and patients to participate.
