Research Medical Center—part of HCA Midwest Health, Kansas City’s leading healthcare provider—announced today that Diane Fulton, RN, MSN, has been appointed Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). Fulton assumes responsibilities of overseeing the nursing leadership functions of the 590-bed acute care facility that features a broad range of highly specialized, state-of-the-art services including a Level I Trauma Center, Cycle IV Chest Pain Center and Level 1 TCD designated Neuroscience Institute, among others.
Since 2011 Fulton has served as CNO at Rapides Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health’s MidAmerica Division, in Alexandria, Louisiana, where she mentored young nurses, encouraged seasoned nurses and developed a nursing team focused on patient satisfaction. She also launched one of Louisiana’s first nurse residency programs for new graduate nurses and implemented shared governance councils to give nurses more voice in decision-making. The Louisiana Nurses Foundation recognized Fulton in 2014 with the Nightingale Award for Nursing Administrator of the Year for her leadership, mentoring, commitment to learning and dedication to excellence in nursing practice and evidence-based initiatives. Most recently, under Fulton’s leadership, five of Rapides Regional Medical Center’s Med Surg units received Unit of Distinction awards for excellence.
“Diane is an exceptional results-oriented nursing leader with more than 30 years of clinical, administrative and legal experience in acute healthcare,” says Research Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Jackie DeSouza-Van Blaricum. “Her collaborative nature and breadth of knowledge will ensure continued excellence in Research Medical Center’s nursing programs and the high-quality, compassionate healthcare delivered to patients and their families.”
